You could also consider getting a USB SD card reader. If you want to store several images in compressed format, then you would need to either keep an external USB hard drive or get the 64GB eMMC module. You may also decide that you need to decompress the image file, which can take up to 8GB of space. The eMMC module would have to be at least 16GB, because many of the Linux images get to be over 2GB in size, even with compression, and you need to be able to store the Linux OS install and the image you want to write to the SD card all on the eMMC module. You would need two X2s and one eMMC module.

You could then use that SD card in your second X2 without having to worry about ruining it. If you can write a stable Linux image to your X2 on an eMMC moule, then you can boot from the eMMC module and write an image to the SD card slot.
